Gerontological Social Work is a specialized field of Social Work Practice that is concerned with the development, needs, and treatment of older adults. Since people are living longer, there is an increased need and demand for individuals with the knowledge and skills to work effectively with the aging population.

Non-Social Work majors have the option to pursue a Minor in Gerontology. The Minor in Gerontology consists of 18 credit hours. It provides an opportunity for students to learn about the aging process and the problems, issues, needs, and strengths of older people and the people who care for them. Students also learn about social programs, special legislation, and other policies that impact older people.
