MUS 120 - Introduction to Music Education Credits: 1 An orientation to the field of music education. It is a prerequisite to EDUC 428 and EDUC 429. This course explores the history of music education, careers in music education, and philosophical trends in the field. Students examine the roles of a music teacher; the role and importance of music in society; music advocacy; professionalism of the music educator; music curricula; basic music learning processes; and preparation for Praxis I. Students are expected to demonstrate critical thinking as it relates to the evolution of their personal philosophies regarding music education.
