ENGL 425 - Shakespeare Credits: 3 This course will use film, theatrical performances, as well as close reading and discussion to analyze and unpack Shakespeare’s plays. We will learn to read, interpret, and analyze a variety of Shakespeare’s plays (tragedies, comedies, histories). We will focus on the historical and cultural context of the plays, their relationship to other early modem plays, playwrights, figures, and issues. We will research, read, and apply a variety of literary theories and approaches to our understanding and discussion of these plays. This is a seminar style class. Students are expected to come to class prepared to lead the discussion on the assigned text(s).
Prerequisite(s): ENGL 103 and Junior Standing. Offered: F (alternating years).
