MATH 503 - Modern Algebra Credits: 3 Review and continuation of the study of algebra. Covers some of the following: the theory of finite group theory, including the fundamental theorem of finite Abelian groups, quotient groups, and the Sylow theorems; polynomial rings, Euclidean rings, unique factorization, number fields, finite fields, and field extensions. Course will discuss the connection of abstract algebra to concepts taught in high school mathematics, as well as connections to other mathematics areas.
Prerequisite(s): MATH 354 - Abstract Algebra I or equivalent or written permission of the instructor.
